The Client
U.S. Bank Stadium is an enclosed stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Built on the former site of the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, the indoor venue opened in 2016 and is the home of the Minnesota Vikings (NFL). This stadium also hosts early season college baseball games for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers (NCAA), as well as a variety of other events such as concerts, trade shows, monster truck entertainment, and much more.
The Challenge
The client needed a custom solution to move a cover on a rollaway bleacher system to store extra seating when not in use during a venue change. There was a very compact area for machinery to operate in, so planning was needed to fit a hoist into a small concrete surround.
Thern's Solution
Thern Stage Equipment designed and built a series of custom line shaft hoists to lift a section of bleachers, as well as custom termination to secure the connection of the wire rope of the winch to the load. This project also involved partnering with a seating manufacturer and other vendors to integrate a retractable riser with fixed seating.

U.S. Bank Stadium is an epicenter of excitement, opportunity, and Minnesota pride. It’s a venue that hosts major national and international events that create economic, fiscal, and social benefits to the community. With the added flexibility of storing extra seating when needed, the facility can better accommodate different types of events.
