What is the proper way to adjust the Brickhouse Rope Lock?
The Brickhouse Rope Lock is easily adjusted using the adjustment knob located at the rear of the lock. The process is easy and requires no special tools.
Use the suggested starting positions listed on the side of the rope lock during installation, or anytime the hand line is replaced.
- Start with a balanced line set with an empty batten using ‘pipe weight’ only.
- Raise the batten to its high trim (full out), and then lower until the arbor is about one foot above the bottom stop.
- Close the rope lock and secure the handle.
- Add 50 pounds of weight to the arbor. If the arbor moves at all before all 50 pounds are added, the lock setting is too loose and should be tightened.
- If you can add more than 50 pounds and the arbor does not move at all, the lock setting is too tight and should be loosened.
Adjusting the Rope Lock
- Loosen the top jam nut first to allow the adjustment mechanism to work properly. Rotate nut clockwise to loosen.
- Adjust the roller position by rotating the adjustment knob. Clockwise rotation will lower the guide for more holding force. Counter-clockwise rotation will raise the guide for less holding force. Adjustment increment will vary with rope type and diameter. The final adjustment may require less than one rotation.
- Retighten the top jam nut to secure guides in the final desired position. Rotate nut counter-clockwise to tighten.
- Repeat these steps as necessary until the lock allows the hand line to slip at about 50 pounds.
Regular rigging system inspection should be performed by a qualified inspector, and checking the adjustment of the Brickhouse Rope Lock is part of a regular venue inspection program.
